New Sign

During a recent repair to the  entrance sign on the west side, we had several property owners stop by and suggest that we consider having a simpler sign, no names and lower profile, to mark the entrance to Tides West.  This would lower our long term cost for maintenance of the sign and for name plates.  The Board had mixed feelings and thought we should take this opportunity to ask for our property owners input.  Please give us your input in the comments section and we’ll see where this goes.  Thanks.

I like the idea of a smaller sign, possible some carved in an old log, rather than the one with all the names.

  2. Nadine Long Says:

I agree with Pat—two smaller more discreet signs–and NO URL. Also some landscaping in that area.

  3. Judi MacPherson Says:

A smaller monument sign without names is a very nice idea. I think a wood sign, while it could look very nice, will be eaten by termites and weather in fairly short order. Perhaps a stone with the community name carved in it would work nicely.

  4. Renelle Welch Says:

I think replacing the current signs is a great idea. A stone or something equivalent would probably weather better than wood, with just the name of our community & perhaps a gull or something similar that is on our letterhead.

  5. Beth Gellatly Says:

A new sign would be an asset to the neighborhood. An engraved stone piece would look nice.

  6. Bill Gellatly Says:

Having purchased a lot very recently, we wanted to have our name added to the board, but I believe that a new is a great idea, and can be tastefully done. I think it should be classical in nature so that it doesn’t become dated.

Can a picture of the sign mentioned in the most recent minutes be posted here before the Annual Business Meeting?

I would also suggest that night visibility be considered. Being a bit color blind, I can help with colors that will assure contrast for everyone.

We like the idea of a “classy” new sign – Stone? or ? We do not feel names are necessary (we chose to name our home rather than adverise where we live).
    New sign a great Idea

Since we now all have street addresses, as contrasted with the earlier post office boxes, the Tides West directory at the entries doesn’t serve a purpose, isn’t alphabetical or easily updateable.

I support an attractive marker, visible at night with appropriate landscaping.

  9. Sue Buchardt Says:

I also like the idea of a small stone sign. I like elimanating the names for privacy issues. Some sort of lighting would be great also.

  10. Carla Winston Says:

Now that the property next to the highway, on the lake side, has been cleared of all the trees. The sign sticks out like a sore thumb.
The sign now is just waiting for the next big wind to blow it down.
I think we should put the new sign idea on the fast track.

  11. Nadine Long Says:

A second comment—-I agree with Carla—that sign on the east side of the highway will probably not last the winter. But after attending a board meeting and hearing “the cost of new stone signs”, I think an interim solution would be to take the tops off of those signs and re-install them closer to the ground. They look good and would last for a few more years. New stone signs would involve some prettier and expensive landscaping and maintenance. I think that we need to be putting money in reserve–for replacement of dock, shed, sprinking system, trail to the beach, etc.

  12. Carla & Winston Says:

Dennis and I agree with Nadine to recycle the tops of the current signs. We do need to reserve money for more important things.

  13. Steve and Paula Morrison Says:

We agree with Nadine, use the tops of the signs and save the money to use where it will be needed and better used.

  14. Vikki Rennick Says:

Yes, I think a wood sign with only Tideswest would be great. Night visbility would also be nice.

PS. Les and I have owned a house in Tideswest for six years and never been asked about having our name there anyway…..
